Adepticon 2015: Firestorm Feedback and Plans for 2016

The event at this year's Adepticon was glorious. Now that it is over, the work schedules have resettled, and the con-crud is basically evacuated, it is time to start pulling in feedback from the tournament and start brain storming for next year.

Terrain: There has been some interesting things said about our terrain; thankfully all positive in regards to appearance, at least. Some players felt out of balance with it because their local groups either play with much less total coverage, or at least fewer, but bigger pieces. Some of the boards were refered to as "maze-like" due to the coverage. We will be putting some R&D into terrain.

Size of Fleets: The decision to make the tournament a 900 point Battle Fleet standard has been fairly controversial since the beginning. Currently, there is a poll going in the Spartan Games Community forums to gather some hard data. The truth is, that there is no point limit that will make everyone super happy. However, we are committed to staying true to the wishes of the player base.

Battle Log for Objectives: I don't think I've come across much, if any, displeasure about using this as a supplemental scoring mechanism. However, the points assigned and how the points were earned have received comment. Research will be done in this area as well.

As a first year event, I think that, overall, things went smoothley and a good time was had by most. And a big thank you to the players who showed up. We received several accolades from Adepticon staff for selling out a first year event, especially for a game that doesn't have as much recognition as some of the bigger convention staples.

That all being said, we have planted the seed for the Firestorm Armada Grand Tournament, now we need to focus on making each year better than the last. How fun would it be to get up to a 64 Admiral tournament? I think very.

The Anseris system is somewhat of a mystery. Debris and a nebula-like cloud of gas and dust encase the system, making long range scans mostly futile other than to identify its boundaries. Anseris has been largely ignored to this point due to a near lack of strategic value because of its positioning on the galactic war maps. However, a recent civilian probe attempted to pierce the cloud and detected a massive power source within the system of which its energy readings were of an unknown pattern. Shortly before contact was lost with the probe, its sensors indicated that the interior of the system was more or less normal and safe for space flight, and therefore combat operations, if necessary.

You have been tasked, Admiral, to guide a fleet through the veil and secure this power source. Unfortunately, intelligence reports have confirmed that you will not be alone in your search, the enemy has also dispatched forces to Anseris.

Good luck.

Countdown to Michigan GT: 5 Days Remaining

I'm not counting the last hour or so of today, so we'll just count from tomorrow. 5 days left until the Michigan GT. This guy is pretty excited about attending. I love that there is a large tournament in my state now, so there's alot of positive mojo going towards it in the hopes it does well and returns bigger and better next year.
I am almost as ready as I am going to get for this. There are a few little paint touch ups that need to happen and I need to finish off my last proper Wave Serpent. Other than that, I just have to make up some of the mandatory objective markers.

Anyone have any neat/easy/cheap ideas for objective markers?

Typhus Has a Force Weapon Too!

Well, Saturday's tournament was interesting. I went 2-1, unfortunately. Though, as a small consolation, the gentleman that bested me was the general that took first. So at least I lost to the day's finest player.
Also unfortunately, I repeated my mistake from the last tournament. This time I learned that Typhus has a Force Weapon. Poor Wraithknight. Though I did giggle when my Guardians took out a Heldrake in the assault. That's a first for me.
After I lost round one, I just started playing with experimental strategies as I would have no chance of placing because there really isn't any kind of variance built into the scoring system. You either get max points or min points 99% of the time.
I think there were more Heldrakes at that tournament than the last several tournaments combined. It was crazy, I'm not used to that many.

And I believe that tournament will be the last primer before the GT in twelve days. I still have some reservations about my list, even though I have a silly amount of games in with it. There's just some situations that are a coin flip between incredibly easy and straight impossible.
