I played another game last night with my fledgling Jetbike army. My opponent had a mostly foot Marine army (Black Templars allied with Dark Angels) and the mission was Relic. The Jetbikes successfully managed to grab the Relic and scoot away with it. Jetbikes are great at The Relic.
So this is the third game I've played now with my new Jetbike obsession. Unfortunately, the data leaves me a little wanting. All three of my opponents have played very slow lists and while it confirms my assertions about mobility being a weapon in its own right, I haven't been able to test the list against anything where I don't have a severe advantage in that respect. We have a White Scars player at the shop, and I will corner him eventually to get a game in. I also need to get someone to bring one of the cookie cutter style tournament Tau lists.
But for now, I am learning how to move the Jetbikes around so they aren't competing with each other for space and to most effectively get their weapons on target. They actually produce a pretty good volley of fire. The Bladestorm rule for them really gave them some teeth, not to mention the Ballistic Skill 4 upgrade from the last Codex.
What do you think would be a bad/difficult matchup for this list? These are the types of games that I am going to be seeking because rough games teach me the most about an army.
My gut says that you would have trouble with the standard Tau armies but they are probably you best matchup of the top armies.
ReplyDeleteI can't see Eldar armies having a hard time. Your fire prisms are the main threat to their serpents and serpents should kills fire prisms.
Your worst matchup however in my opinion is a flying circus of deamon prince goodness. You might catch them once but they have the tools to deal with your speed (I think).
My Eldar/Mantis Warriors (White Scars) should do fairly well but would be a better matchup for you than net-eldar as you've got a number of anti-marine tools.
In agree. The Tau lists I don't have much fear of, I think I would do well actually. Wave Serpents terrify me and I am founded in that after tonight's game.
DeleteSteinerp hit the high points. I would add the Dark Kin to the list as well. You loose your mobility advantage against them, or at least they are on an even footing.
ReplyDeleteI should see if Jim will let me borrow his and see if they can take the bikes on :-)
Anything with a decent reach and ignores cover might be a challenge, especially if they can take out your scoring. I'm thinking helldrakes, wave serpents, Tau, some IG, units with perfect timing. Might come across a few of these in competitive play!
ReplyDeleteVery interested to see how you get on, because I like the concept of a massively mobile jetbike army.
Ignores Cover isn't really a problem in and of itself, unless it have AP3 or better attached to it. Cue the Heldrakes. :(
DeleteYeah, helldrakes/colossi(?)/dark reapers/tau buff commanders attached to units with AP3/etc. are the things to watch out for!
DeleteIndeed. 6th edition is the deathstar/ignores cover edition for sure. There are just so many NASTY combos out there these days that it is hard to pull out consistent wins with off the wall lists. I'm not scared though, I like a challenge. People thought I was crazy running nine grav tanks with the old Eldar codex, and I was wrecking face with that list.
