Adepticon 2012: WE RIDE!!!

Well its 2 days before Adepticon and I am a third of the way through my 30 hour work week.  Yup 31 hours in 3 days.  Why you ask.  Because I love Adepticon and I need a freakin vacation.  I will be playing in the Team tournament with Lord Solar Steve, The Judge and Samsquatch Monster from Dark Future Games.

Ale Old School Terminator has once again decreed that the DFG "buy us a drink and win a battle force" contest is happening once again at Adepticon.  here are the rules

The official rules of the Adepticon Battle Force Contest:

If you purchase a drink (we prefer alcohol, but regular drinks are welcome) for a member of the Dark Future Games Staff wearing a shirt with the image above, you will earn an entry in our raffle for a battle force of the winners choosing (or an equal value in GW merch - current stuff only).

There is no limit to the amount of times a person can enter. (yes, you can buy us a case of beer too and receive an entry for each one!)

A member of DFG may not refuse the drink and must enter your name. If he is taking part in an event, he may pass the drink to a member who is not playing.

Will will choose the winner the Monday following Adepticon and mail out the prize as soon as we get our hands on what the winner wants!

I will also add that if anybody is wearing a Craftworld Lansing shirt, me, that entries will also be counted. We will be doing semi live coverage from both Dark Future Games and Craftworld Lansing the whole weekend.

well I must now catch some shut eye and get the last 2 models painted for the team tournament.  See you all at the Westin Lombard for Adepticon 2012.

Until then................

Double Duty

Well looks like I will be multi tasking.  I was invited to be a writer at Dark Future Games.  So in addition to my 40K high jinks here I will also be posting blogs over there.  The Craftworld is still my primary focus though.  I will still be posting articles about tactics and projects.  My other 3 authors will also be posting, especially when the semester is over for 2 of them, tactics and projects about orks, Necrons and Fantasy.

I will be heading up the the FLGS tomorrow night so I hope to have some battle reports and some new conversions done to show off this weekend.

Until next time.....

The "End Of Days" Is Nigh: DFG's End Of Days Tournament

Well this Saturday Dark Future Games will be holding its 2nd annual "End Of Days" partners tournament at Evolutions Games in Lansing.  Vogrin and I will be attending.  I am breaking out the Craftworlders with some Dark Eldar back up while Vogrin will be bringing the guns of the Imperial Guard with some Grey Knight support.  Psychic domination is assured.

I have find the concept of the tourney pretty cool.  You each get 1250 points to work with.  You both use the same force org chart with the addition of 1 HQ slot.  You both may take one unit that is from a different codex.  You cannot take a unit from your partners codex nor can you both take the extra unit from the same other codex.

I think there will be 3 or 4 missions that are multi tier.  I wrote the core for one of them so we will see how it got changed to fit the scoring structure.  So I hope to see some of you there Saturday.  I think dice start rolling at 11 am.

Until then...

Win A Battle Force From DFG and Craftworld Lansing!!!!

Ok I will admit it.  I love shameless promotion.  I have to say this is the brain child of Old Shool Terminator though.  You can win yourself a Battleforce of your choice just by tracking down one of the DFG Crew or Myself at Adepticon and buying us a drink.  Its a long standing tradition to have a pint while playing 40K.  I know its one of the things I miss about working for GW.  SO basically it works like this.  You find me or one of the DFG authors wearing either a DFG shirt or a Craftworld Lansing shirt.  In order to get your name entered, buy him a drink (doesn't have to be alchohol, though I think we would all prefer it). Multiple drinks will equal multiple entries. Here are some rules:

As we said, drink = name entered
More drinks = more chances
DFG team members are not allowed to turn down a drink (regardless of how horrid it is) unless:
- they are competing in an event at the moment, in which case, they will pass to a member who is not playing.
- they are inebriated, in which case, they will pass to a member who is not yet.

Winners will be announced over the blog after Adepticon, at which time the winner will tell us what battleforce he wants and we will ship it to him free of charge!

We will be out at the bars Thursday night as well and its fair game out and about as well as at Adepticon proper.  Check out OST's original post here

I like Red lagers and Whiskey for the record.

so bottoms up and see you all at Adepticon

Until then................

Hippie Rocker Chics Need not Apply: A List I Call "Lelith Fair"

I was asked by a couple of the DFG guys at the shop to put fourth some Dark Eldar competitive lists so they could test their Adepticon lists. Friday I squared off against Samsquatch Monster and his Space Wolves. I have been eagerly waiting the chance to spill space marine blood. Especially after the tie game Vs a very beaten Black Templar army. I came up with a list I like to Call Lelith Fair.
This list is no hippie chic rock fest. Its a finely honed force from the Wych Cult of Strife lead by its Deadly Mistress, that saucy red headed temptress Lelith Hesperax.
The core of the force is of course made up of Wychs and Hekatrix Blood Brides. There is also a squad of Kabalite Warriors and some Ravagers for support. I actually included a squad of Harlequins in the initial version, but Lelith found them wanting. I never have been able to deploy and use Harlequins effectively. Granted they rended and took out a couple of rhinos, but failed to really survive passed that.

Deployment

Samsquatch had the first turn and the game turned out to be a spearhead Deployment. Much to my displeasure it was a kill point game. The Wolves deployed in a wall formation with the Long Fang pack taking up position in a large ruined building. I actually deployed my whole force as I did not want to get picked off slowly as things came in from reserve. The Wychs in their raiders lined up as close to the enemy as they could. The Ravagers brought up the rear. The Kabalite Warriors deployed in some ruins and left their transport empty for Lelith and the Harlequins to board as they were all deployed within 2 inches.

Turn 1

Turn one saw a torrent of fire destroy a raider. There was minimal casualties. The Raider with the Hekatrix Blood Brides was also stunned. The remaining Raiders moved flat out towards the enemy. Dark Lance fire manged to shake a predator and that was about it. During the whole game I managed to make flicker field saves like mad and fail to do any real damage with my dark lances

Turn 2

The Wolves continued to poor fire into the raiders this time destroying another . Some Wyches died, but did not get pinned. The Wych Squad advancing due to loss of transport was thinned out by plasma cannon fire from the dreadnoughts. The wolves remained pretty much in the same position with the rhinos moving forward a bit. Lelith and the harlequins deployed from their Raider and the Still remaining Wyches form the downed raider advanced on the Predators. The Hekatrix Blood Brides now mobile moved flat out towards the now forming front. The Kabalite Warriors manged to destroy a plasma cannon on one of the dreadnoughts as they strayed within range of their Dark Lance. The Harlequins lead by Lelith charged the Rhino line after their fusion pistols managed to immobilize one of their number. They managed to assault 3 of the Vehicles immobilizing one and destroying two. The Wychs managed to haywire both predators silencing their guns with one turret destroyed on one and both being immobilized.

Turn 3

The wolves were not taking all this well. They deployed and began to poor bolter rounds into the wychs and Harlequins. The 4, yeah 4, Rune Priests began to work their powers killing the Harlequin troop leader and a wych. The bolter fire and frag missiles form the Long Fangs took care of the rest of the troop leaving Lelith free to work her deadly art. The predators succumbed to haywire grenades after a dreadnought was blasted by the, until now, useless Ravagers. A rhino was also taken out. Lelith charged int combat with a squad of Grey Hunters lead by a wolf priest. She killed all but one of the Grey Hunters and the Rune Priest. The Rune Priest failed to wound her. The wyches managed to take out the predators and the Hekatrix blood brides charged into one of the remaining Rhinos immobilizing it. The Ravagers punished the Dreadnoughts destroying one as the Warriors advanced.

Turn 4

By this time most of both armies were engaged in hand to hand, the Long Fangs, perhaps suffering from senility or old age, Failed to be effective trying to take out a ravager. Plasma fire did however immobilize a raider and destroy another. The Blood brides managed to destroy the Rhino they had assaulted and then went hand to hand with the squad inside. The Iron priest lost his servitors to the remaining Wych unit. Lelith continued to fight the Rune priest who was being very stubborn. He managed to wound her twice, but his mind was not focused enough to kill her with his force weapon. This roll of 11 would prove clutch as Lelith stayed locked in combat with him.

Turn 5

Once I had closed the distance and started to assault things I quickly made up the 3 Kill points The wolves had managed to get. I was up 7 to 4. Lelith Failed to kill the Rune priest this round and I lost Blood brides in close combat. The Wolves could have caught up this turn but due to sheer luck of the roll no kill points were gained. It was a swirling melee with some deaths, but no Kill points. As Samsquatch rolled for turn 6, a roll of a 2 ended the game.

This was a very decisive victory and a great learning experience for both of us. I plan on developing this list further.  Lelith is such a beast in close combat.  Despite her strength of 3 she really cuts units to pieces.  Quantity over strentgh.  The Blood Brides are tough as well.  Of course it helped I rolled +1 strength for combat drugs, but they were very effective.  Especially armed with haywire grenades.  Well actually all the squads were effective with the haywire grenades.  So much easier than dark lances.
I actually got a second game in Against Captain Obvious, of Dark Future Games fame, against his Daemons. It did very very well with the changes I made. I will have that battle report later in the week along with a nice overview of my new favorite unit. Beast Masters. I will also cover the slaying of Space Marine Librarians in my new series called “Make Them Know Fear”. I guess I will just post articles about killing all things power armor as a weekly segment for a while. God I hate Space Marines. I hope to have the Pod cast recorded this week as well I have been trying to think of good topics to talk about, thus the delay. So fingers crossed

Until next time..............

The End of Days: Aftermath

The guns have gone silent and the dust has cleared. The “End of Days” Tournament is over. All in all “Team Ramrod” did pretty good. We won our first two games. Game one saw us against a combined Eldar and Tau force being backed up by a Daemon Prince and a Space Marine Predator. The Tau were slain to the man With Eldrad making short work of the Daemon prince. The veterans of Dave's Imperial Guard force dealt with the Crisis suits and Commander while at the same time laying waste to the Eldar hanging back with his manticore. We held one objective and so did they, but we got the win from kill points.
Game two Saw us face down Captain Obvious and our resident Daemon player Jake. This game was a close one and saw one of the biggest and bloodiest combats I have ever been in. Now the Rules for the Tournament state that you can take one unit form a different HQ that cannot be from the main army your partner is fielding. I was using Sanguinary Priests with both my Seer Council and Howling Banshees. Dave was using one of my Ravagers with his 2 veteran Squads, 2 Psyker Battle squads, scout sentinels and manticore. Game two saw us meeting up against Failbaddon The Failspoiler with Brother Corbulo, The Emperors Champion and 10 Black Templar Initiates in a land raider crusader. We also had to contend with 12 Blood Crushers, a Blood Thirster and a unit of Pink Horrors. Eldrad and his coterie of Warlocks Along with the Banshees met with The Failspoiler and his big unit of Hurt. They came out with no casualties. All 10 initiates and Failbaddon died with the Emperors Champion taking a wound. The Blood Crusher Unit that was close, and down to 4, charged in and killed 9 banshees. Eldrad and his boys stood firm and killed one crusher. The combat ended the next turn with Eldrad and his warlocks finishing off the Blood Crushers. They then dealt with the Land raider which had been immobilized. The Guard were doing their best to defend our objective, this was a capture and control mission. The second Blood Crusher unit was reduced to two from the shooting onslaught. The Horrors eluded death on several occasions thanks to Dave's dice rebelling. The blood thirster was reduced to 1 wound though thanks to sentinel auto cannon fire and the dizzy's on the Ravager. The sentinels held the Blood Crushers in Combat, but sadly when the Blood Thirster added his attacks to the melee they were destroyed. The game was close as our objective was contested and they did not claim theirs. We tied on kill points, but thanks to Eldrad's Head Hunting of HQ's we won the game.
Game three did not go well. We had, shall we say, Deployment issues. I held Eldrad in Reserve when I should have put him on the table. The opposing force had just about every cheesy trick in the book on their side. Duel Lash Princes, Thunder Wolf Cavalry, Thousand sons and a blood thirster. We stalled and they got first turn. The guard was valiant but died to the man. They took a major toll though as they took down all that came against them and killed them. The Wolf Lord and one Thunder wolf cav guy were all that was left. When Eldrad decided to join the mix around turn three he and the boys killed both lash princes and all the Thousand sons including their Rhino. If I would have put him on the table turn one he would have been able to kill the obliterators and the Broadside suits on that side of the table. This team won the tournament. We ranked high though and walked away with some store credit at good old Evolution Games.
This was fun I want to thank Old School Terminator of Dark Future Games for running a very fun and smooth tournament.  I also want to thank my partner Dave and His Imperial Guardsman.  They did the Guard proud. Congrats to the winners. The Judge took home the Castellion Award for the most objectives taken. The Kill point winner Alex took home a nice plaque with a real Marine k-bar, a cool knife, on it. The Judge got a nice big box of MRE's. Austin took home the Head Hunter Award for most HQ kills.
Me thinks this means that I will be hosting a tournament in the next year. I am thinking a 2250 point Gladiator Tournament. Perhaps on the Year anniversary of the blog. Maybe sooner.

Until then
