Goodbye 2022

Greetings all.  Its been quite a while.  Life and a lack of motivation has kept me from writing. 2022 has been quite a year.  I have started to play a few different games and a couple have gone by the wayside.  I am getting my gaming mojo back.  I have been hobbying a lot more and I have even started painting again.  The burnout I experienced doing stuff for Spartan Games and the pandemic had lasting effects that are finally going away.  I picked up A billion Suns to satisfy my need for spaceships and I have started playing 30k since the release of the new edition.  In fact we are running A Billion Suns tournament at Adeption this coming March.  I just wanted to pop in and say that I am going to make an effort to write even if nobody is reading it.  Just to talk about the hobby and games to kinda work things out for myself.

Happy New Year.  may the coming year be good.  Adeption Registration is January 8th!

The Year in Review

Greetings all.  Its December 31st.  That means 2016 is coming to an end.  The crew and I are getting together tonight for a big party to usher out 2016.  It has been a year of extremes.  There have been epic highs and some pretty epic lows. Other than a decent paying job and meeting my future wife, it has been kind of an Empire strikes back kinda year.   The Spartan community is at a low point while the Infinity community is growing and has had some pretty awesome stuff happen this year. This has me in  a weird spot.  I am part of a community that has momentum and is growing at a rapid pace.  It is full of positivity and generally speaking a really good bunch of players.  It has a company that actively supports its community by going to shows and having a very tight and active tournament scene.  On the other hand the energy and momentum has kind of gone out of the Spartan community sails.  There is a lot of uncertainty and a lot of ill will from the player base right now.  There are signs of life and I hope this means the energy of 2 years ago makes a resurgence. Lets take a look back and I will have some resolutions as well as some stuff I would like to see in 2017.

Ever Forward: The Year End Reflection

2015, has been quite a year.   We have seen a lot of change and a lot of growth.  On the blog, the
Podcast and in the community in general.  I have actually been pretty deep in thought about a lot of things as the year comes to a close, about my personal life and the community at large.

We saw lots of releases this past year.  Planetfall helix's, New ships and the big release of Halo.  Spartan Games made Planetfall at their first North American convention.  They came to the mother of all games conventions Gencon.  I think this exposure was really good as there are rumblings of more things to come in the coming new year.  More shows and better community support.  Hell, just in the past 5 months Spartan has really overhauled the vanguard program and made it better.  I happen to know that more changes are on the way and they are exciting to say the least.

We saw big growth in the Firebase Delta Podcast.  We have been on hiatus the past month or so, but will be returning strong in 2016.  The technical issues have been fixed or are in process of getting fixed.  We will be back and stronger than ever, bringing you coverage of your favorite Spartan Games.  The blog has been at a good spot, but I want to grow it.  Some new faces will be around, making posts in 2016.  We will be expanding coverage to other games.  I will be able to focus on FSA, Planetfall and some Halo.  I am also hoping this means I will have more content.  I plan on doing at least one post a week on the same day every week.

Adepticon 2015 was a great success and the support from the community was awesome.  Our first year there has lead to a second with growth.  Our endeavor known as The Schaumburg Prime Offensive has grown quite a bit we gained some space and are now up to 32 players from 24.  We also added the Planetfall tournament to the mix this year, which sold out quick and now has added space.

I joined the FSA Playtest and have been helping shape the game for the future.  The rest of the guys are helping improve Planetfall and so far have been slowly bringing the game around.  I am looking forward in the coming year to all the FSA and Planetfall stuff that is coming out.

Well it's been one hell of a year and I am glad it is now behind me.  There was a lot of change, some of it bad, but most of it was good.  The benefits shall be reaped in the coming year.  2016 should prove to be as interesting as 2015.  There are things brewing and the anticipation is killing me.

2015.....WITNESS!!!!!!!!!!

see you on the flip side

So Long 2014, Hello 2015!

Happy New Year from the WayGate staff!  2014 has been quite a year.  Its been a Year of changes to the blog and war gaming in general.  We have seen droves of veteran 40K players setting their armies aside as GW continues to forge ahead in the path they have chosen.  A path that we are no longer following.  On the inverse we have seen a small game company grow by leaps and bounds and experience its first real growing pains, at least from the players perspective.

Spartan has really had a fantastic year and by proxy we as players have had an awesome year.  We have seen Firestorm Armada take off with the new edition.  New models and new rules have brought a lot of new players into the fold.  Groups are springing up all over the place, as are blogs, pod casts and events.  We have been playing 2.0 for just about a year now and we are still learning new things about the game and the fleets.  Spartan is keeping things fresh and it is very refreshing.

Dystopian Wars players have also been given a new edition and Dystopian Legions.  I have to say I am curious about the games and will probably be trying them out thanks to Spartan releasing the Rules in a free PDF.  I have never been a big fan of steam punk, but I will give the rules a whirl.

Spartan also gave us some ground combat in the Firestorm Universe.  Planetfall is out and so far it is proving to be a fun and fast paced game.  The system is pretty simple and straightforward but there is a lot of depth and nuance that we are just starting to really see.  I have gotten in a couple games with my Relthoza and I have a lot to learn.

The blog has probably undergone the biggest change.  We changed gears and formats.  Craftworld Lansing became The WayGate.  It was rough and we had some challenges, but the blog has been growing and seems to be expanding faster than its previous incarnation.  We have been running events and recording with Firebase Delta on a pretty regular basis.  Its been great working with Phil, Bryan and Robert.

2014 was great and 2015 is looking to be even better.  We have plans for events, more expansions to look forward to and Firestorm Armada and Spartan Games is going to have a big presence at Adepticon this year.  The Demos of Firestorm Armada and Planetfall are in addition to our first big Firestorm Armada Tournament, The Schaumburg Prime Offensive.

SO! Good bye 2014 its been fun.  Hello 2015!

See you all next year, until then crush the Alliance and as always...

Happy New Year!

Well I am recovering from the party last night.  Old Seek Partied like an Archon last night and much fun was had. 2011 was a good year for Craftworld Lansing.  Our first tournament "The Test Of Khaine" was a rousing success.  I hope its equally as big this coming year.  We also added authors besides myself.  I hope they will be posting more in the coming year.
We had a great time at Adepticon and this year is looking to be an awesome time as well.  Craftworld Lansing and Dark Future Games will be running another, "buy us a drink!" raffle this year again.
I was also added to Dark Future Games as a contributor this past year.  I look forward to bringing you coverage both here and on DFG in the coming year on all things Eldar and Xenos.  I am also looking forward to moving back to Lansing next month.  My time on the path of the Outcast is done.  Time to take up the full mantle of Seer again.  Happy New Year!

Until next time....

Its The Final Countdown: "The List" And The End of 2010

My original intent when I designed “The List” was to play a themed list in a tournament and win. This is proving to be very difficult. I have to sit and think. To be a douche or not be a douche? Do I continue to try and develop “The List” in its current form and see how far I get in the GT at Adepticon? Do I throw on a polo, pop the collar and give in and design a real douchey list that will not make any friends. Do I go halfway. Thats what has been on my mind since I played Old School Terminator week before this past week.
The Game vs his Tyranids started out rather well. I was up on kill points until turn 4 and he quickly made them up and shot ahead. We have gone back and fourth in games, but this was a pretty sound beating. The Doom of Malan'tai was a beast and ate hearty on my guardians. They were out in the open and unprotected. As were the Vibrocannons. Old School also learned from past experience and got nowhere near Eldrad and his coterie of Warlocks. I was able to kill only one Trygon Prime and injure the others with Mind War until the moved out of range. Old School is trying to convince me to pop the collar and go to the dark side, not literally as in Dark Eldar as appealing as it sounds now.

So I stand with 1 win out of 5 games. Not great at all. I have designed a list that I view as a tournament douche list and I intend to play it soon. I feel kind of dirty doing it, but I guess I have to try it and see how it does in comparison. I am going to go all out and run the duel bike council. I also designed a less beardy list where I finally use one of my Autarchs to get my reserves in when I want them and do some solo anti tank work. I have some work to do as I must finalize a list to give myself time to buy models if need be and modify my existing ones so the are WYSWYG.

In other news I have completed my first squad of Kabalite Warriors. They have been built to be A squad of Trueborns. They will be going to paint this weekend along with their raider. I have also completed a very simple mod for my Duke Sliscus. I will be doing a Mod for Baron Sathonyx once I pick up a box of Hellions in a couple weeks. I really like all the bits you get with the dark Eldar kits. It makes kit bashing so much easier.

This year has been quite eventful. I started the blog this past April, We have seen some very nice codex's come out, namely the Dark Eldar. Tournaments have come and gone and we have a new year of them to look forward to. We have also seen the 3rd party miniature market take off. Companies Like Chapter House Studios, Paulson Games and the like have been churning out great mod parts and miniatures to fill in the gaps GW likes to leave. It is very sad that GW is now suing them for IP infringement. Looks like I have to put in a Chapter house order very very soon.
I have had a great year and I look forward to 2011. I hope to bring you more on the blog. More tactics and more crunch rather than me just blowing hot air. I also have some other stuff I am trying to get going. Namely a weekly pod cast or at very least a nice round table of the Lansing area bloggers and hobbyists.

I would also like to announce that this March I will be running a Tournament. This 1850 Rogue Trader style event will take place at our FLGS Evolution Games. I will have more details as I work them out, but I am hoping for a good showing and to have some nice prizes.

Well 2010 has been a blast and I look forward to 2011.  See you next year.

Until then........
