Typhus Has a Force Weapon Too!

Well, Saturday's tournament was interesting. I went 2-1, unfortunately. Though, as a small consolation, the gentleman that bested me was the general that took first. So at least I lost to the day's finest player.
Also unfortunately, I repeated my mistake from the last tournament. This time I learned that Typhus has a Force Weapon. Poor Wraithknight. Though I did giggle when my Guardians took out a Heldrake in the assault. That's a first for me.
After I lost round one, I just started playing with experimental strategies as I would have no chance of placing because there really isn't any kind of variance built into the scoring system. You either get max points or min points 99% of the time.
I think there were more Heldrakes at that tournament than the last several tournaments combined. It was crazy, I'm not used to that many.

And I believe that tournament will be the last primer before the GT in twelve days. I still have some reservations about my list, even though I have a silly amount of games in with it. There's just some situations that are a coin flip between incredibly easy and straight impossible.

  1. Alas! What lost you the game? Any benefit from the more experimental strategies you care to share?

I'd guess the helldrakes came to see the new space marines!

  2. It was actually a fairly close game considering I was playing 240 points down for most of it due to the Wraithknight debacle. It is just that the scoring system was very harsh.
Mostly, the loss came because I just couldn't get the results I needed from the dice. I was hitting like a champion, but I couldn't wound or penetrate armor to save my life. Consistently passing Jink saves for Glancing hits and consistently failing them for Pentetrating hits didn't help either.
He was a really good player with a solid list though, so I can't take that away from him.
I found out that rushing a Tau gunline actually works. Other than that, it was mostly little things, like how much damage I could expect to do if everything. Had shot rather than maneuvered. Basically, most of a Daemon list dropped into my lines and I just went head to head with it. Worked out ok, actually.

    1. Ah, those pesky dice! Getting a feel for your army to supplement any theoryhammer you might do is good though (and I do like a good bit of theoryhammer!).

    2. I do too. I find that making changes to my list based on trends I have noticed in the list's performance rather than taking guesses or planning for specific opponents has resulted in a much better evolutionary process. I think I have it pretty well honed in. Truth be told, I am looking forward to this GT being finished so I can start working on a new list.

    1. I'll be posting it when I write up my reflections of the GT. Still some tweaks I may do.

  4. Love the picture. I didn't know he had a force weapon. Good to know. Turns out I am able to make the GT, know all I have to do is figure out a list. I wish the new marine codex was legal as I think marines + eldar are going to be very strong allies in the near future.

    1. Thanks, I found the picture both amusing and fitting for my post. I'm glad to you will be attending the GT, it should be a fun time. I'm pretty excited.

    2. I think that the Space Marines are going to be strong allies for a whole host of brutal combinations. Going to be an interesting 60 days until the next book drops, then it will be another interesting 60 days.

  5. Practice. That's how I push through events. Any time that I have made last minute, large overhauls based on something I "think" might show up, I paid for it, but when I stick to tried and true stuff that I have successfully tested and made minor adjustments, I have prevailed.

If streaks of bad rolls have affected you, I know what I do is look into what is in my list that may generate this effect. In an elite style list, you end up prone to bad streaks, sometimes, there are other factors ... then there are times we forget Typhus has a force weapons, but that happens. In my last tourney, I forgot a Tau cammander with his Nintendo Power Gauntlet was S10 and got Typhus killed by charging into the Hatchet Faced Blue Meanie! Which, for me, was all about a lack of practice.

I would love to hear what you plan to run, but then again, there is no reason to chum the waters by letting everyone in your local meta know exactly what you are bringing, so I will just call SeerK and ask him, hahaha.

    1. I agree TJ Atwell, and I have a ton of practice in with my list. The vast majority of the time, the list performs very, very well. I just make a big deal out of when outliers rule the day for my dice.
Usually, my losses com not from my list, but from my ignorance of the opponent's army. Thankfully, it only happens with a few parts of a few armies, and it is a problem that will get better with time. I also have to increase my skill with the Wraithknight. He is a new beast for me to play with, and I just don't have the sheer amount of hours playing with it compare to the tanks.
SeerK will know for sure what I'm bringing, he's seen/faced it enough.

  6. I have lists specifically made for killing Spellduckwrongs army lol.

I have completely changed my list after its crappy performance at the Primer. The new list is more balanced. I will say one thing, I miss my Foot councils. they are to clunky to run. I guess I am going to have to get a bunch of bikes finally.

Gimme a ring TJ I have his list burned into my mind lol
