UCON Games Convention Demo Sessions!

Greetings all! SeerK here.  With all the Adepticon hype starting I almost forgot that I was going to be doing some demo sessions at a local convention here in Michigan.  As some of you remember I have attended UCON Games Convention in the Ann Arbor Ypsilanti area for a few years now.  This Year I will be running Learn To Play sessions of Firestorm Armada, Halo Fleet Battle and Halo Ground Command.  I will also be running an Infinity Boot Camp  The events start on Saturday night and continue through Sunday. Lets take a look at the schedule!

The 2nd Schaumburg Prime Offensive: The Road to Adepticon 2016

Greetings all!  The time has come to plan for Adepticon 2016!  The WayGate team is hard at work planning the 2nd Schaumburg Prime Offensive at Adepticon.  Missions are already mostly developed as is a new method of doing terrain.

We plan on being bigger and better this year and expanding the offering of events.  We have a learn to play Firestorm Armada class as well as the big show The Schaumburg Prime Offensive.  I am working on a format as well as logistics for a Planetfall Tournament as well if there is interest in the community for a Planetfall event.

I have a little Survey up at The WayGate Facebook Page that I would like to ask people to take a couple minutes and vote on.  We want to run an event that is professional and reflects the will of the community.  So we want to see what point level people would like to play at.  800, 900 or 1000 points?

Go Vote!

I apologize for the lack of updates.  The trusty laptop finally died and I am forced to try and work on posts at work.  I will be more vigilant in the coming weeks.  I have a bunch of events to plan for the Store as well as getting all my stuff together to run Firestorm Armada and Halo Fleet Battle Demos at U-CON in Ann Arbor.  Come check it out and say hi if you are in the area!

Until next time...

The Battle At Omicron Theta Results!

SeerK here.  This past weekend The Waygate Staff invaded UCON in Ann Arbor Michigan.  The 2nd Annual Storm Zone Brawl: The Battle At Omicron Theta went down on Saturday the 15th.  We had 10 participants fighting for the great prizes provided by Spartan Games and Evolution Games of Lansing Michigan.  When the guns were finally powered down and the fleets scarred and battered the fate of Omicron Theta was decided.  Victory went to the Zenian League.  Omicron Theta was taken.

The Battles were brutal and we had a pretty decent mix of Kurak Alliance and Zenian League member fleets.  After 4 rounds of brutal combat we had a clear victor.  In fact our winner went undefeated and ended the tournament 47 points ahead of our 2nd place winner.  Just three points shy of a perfect score.  On that note lets take a look at our winners.

1st place  Dave Wangen  Works Raptor / OSO Corsairs

2nd Place  Matt Johnson  Sorylians / Veydreth

3rd Place Steve Krohn  Hawker Industries

Congratulations to our winners and our Battle Station Drawing Winners John Miles and Mike Aguilera.  UCON was fun this year.  The missions seemed to be very well received and our players got a taste of what we will be running at Adepticon in March.  Now that Omicron Theta has fallen the Zenian League Fleets will now press to Schaumberg Prime.

Adepticon has announced Pre Registration will begin on November 24th, which is a Monday, at 8 p.m. central time.  They have the web cart up now so you can preview events and plan your trip.  I encourage everybody to pre register as soon as possible as we expect the event to fill up quick and it is currently limited to 20 spots.  Spartan Games is supporting the event as well as the good folks at Adepticon.  So stay tuned for what we have in store for you!

Thats all for now, But I will leave you with some pictures of the event.

Battle For Omicron Theta Missions!

Hi all SeerK here.  We are just over a week away from the 2nd annual Storm Zone Brawl: The Battle At Omicron Theta.  UCON pre registration has closed, but you can still register for the convention with the onsite prices in effect.

After much playtesting and formatting we have for you a mission pack.  The link HERE will open the document in Google drive so you can play through the missions and know what you are in for.  We went with a modified kind of Tiered mission.  You play as normal gaining and loosing battle log.  There are three objectives which are worth additional battle log. These are added at the end of the game if you complete the objective.  A winner is determined from here.

This is the format we will be doing at Adepticon.  Speaking of Adpeticon, if you listen to the Adepticon Talks podcast myself, Spellduckwrong and Dreadbeard will be on an upcoming episode talking about the Adepticon Events we have planned.

We are also delving into the realm of Pod Casting.  The group of us will be throwing some knowledge your way with the guys over at Firebase Delta in the next couple of episodes so head on over and check it our.  Phil, Robert and Bryan are a good bunch of guys and have a great podcast for all of your Firestorm Universe needs.

Well thats all for now.  Its proving to be a busy week.  Stay tuned for more stories and tactical articles.

Firestorm Armada Tournament Preparations

Dreadbeard, SeerK, and I have been working diligently on both the scenarios and tournament scoring system that will be utilized for U-Con and then further refined for use at our Firestorm Armada event at Adepticon 2015. I still love saying that.

We have hammered out four rounds worth of tactical material, drafted the logic and structure for the scoring, and have been whittling down more extraneous elements of the tournament day. Since we believe in community, when we have a fully loaded product, we will be submitting our methods and materials for broader input from the fine Admirals out in the far reaches of the Internet.

So far, some of the main sticking points have been how do we deal with players that would be accused of the dreaded "slow-play". For anyone that doesn't know, slow-play is traditionally used within the context of a timed, competitve event and refers to a player that is willfully playing slowly so as to gain advantage from this tactic. The advantage gained varies widely, but we see it across game systems, so there is indeed a temptation to do so. Unlike outright cheating, or using loaded dice, it is incredibly hard to pin an accusation of slow-play on a player. Our council has not come to a final solution for this problem at this time.

Also, it should be noted that some players are just slow players, either by nature or because they lack the table experience to have everthing memorized or lack the tournament experience to formulate moves quickly and in advance in order to get as far into a game as possible during a timed event.

This is just a quick update for anyone drifting by. Also, if anyone has any actual experience with events that handled slow-play in an original fashion, I would love to hear it.

Its Tournament Time!

Hey all!  SeerK here just with a couple updates.  I have been pretty busy this week painting, job hunting and planning tournaments.

I had the chance to sit down and record a segment with Phil over at Firebase Delta About our upcoming demos and Tournament, The 2nd annual Storm Zone Brawl:The Battle At Omicron Theta, at UCON on November 15th.  I also got to talk  a little about our events planned at this years Adepticon.

The episode should be up by the end of the week, so give it a listen.  Speaking of the end of the week.
The Michigan GT is this Saturday, but if 40K and War Machine is not your bag, then we have a Firestorm Armada Tournament set up for this Saturday at Evolution Games in Lansing.  I have a Facebook page with all the details.

Doors open at 10 A.M.  Dice will roll at 11ish.  Entry into the Tournament is $10.00.  In addition we will be having a drawing for a Battle Station!

Sooo that's all for now, just a quick update.  I am working on some posts about Omnidyne and some more fluff for our "Fluff Friday" series.

UCON Pre Reg Is Open!

Hey guys! SeerK here.  As you know we are running a bigger than normal Firestorm Armada event in November.  UCON Games convention in Ann Arbor will be hosting the 2nd annual Storm Zone Brawl:  The Battle At Omicron Theta.

Pre registration is now open!  You can reserve your spot in the tournament by going to the UCON website.  Entry is the cost of a day badge, or weekend badge if you want to come play a bunch of games, and $6.00 for the tournament.  It is going to be a 4 round tourney starting at 10 A.M. so I would suggest a hotel room if you are coming from a decent distance away.

We have boxed sets and Battle Stations up for grabs.  There may be some more surprises as I have some things cooking on the back burner.  We are hard at work getting tables and terrain done for this event.  This is going to be a taste of whats to come for Adepticon as well.

Stay tuned for the missions.  We are hard at work testing them out as they are brand new and geared to give you an excellent tournament experience.

That is all for now.  I just wanted to make sure you get your spot reserved as the tournament has 20 available slots. Hope to see you there.

Until then crush the Alliance and as always....

The Battle At Cyrax Prime, UCON and Adepticon Oh MY!

Well the fall is upon us. The summer is drawing to a close. You know what that means? Its time for weekend tournaments and war game conventions! Summer is kind of a drag and outright killer of regular game nights. Yeah you still have people showing up and playing, but it seems like, at least in Michigan, once the fall hits more people end up showing up for regular nights and events.

With that in mind, and the Fact Spellduckwrong and I are now both Spartan Vanguards, we are kicking the season off with some events. In fact we have two big events that we are very excited about.

PG_Hick of our team will be running a Warmachine Weekend qualifier at the Michigan GT which is October 11th and 12th in Lansing’s south side at the best western. You can get information at the Michigan GT website. For those of you not into War Machine or 40k, I will be hosting a Firestorm Armada tournament on October 11th.

The tournament will be at Evolution games on Saturday October 11th. It is a 900 point 3 round tournament. You are allowed 2 lists. You must choose one base fleet and both lists must use that fleet as its base. For example, if you choose to run Dindrenzi both lists must use Dindrezi to satisfy the minimum tier requirements. Battle Stations will not be allowed. Registration will start at 10 A.M. and dice will roll a little after 11 A.M. The entry fee will be $10.00 and all entry will go towards prizes in the form of store credit. Evolution games is fully stocked with Firestorm products.

The big announcements are the two conventions we will be running tournaments and game demos at. Once again we will be returning to UCON at the Marriott on Eaglecrest in Ann Arbor. We will be bringing you the 2nd annual Storm Zone Brawl: The Battle At Omicron Theta. Saturday November 15th we will be throwing down with a 900 point 4 round tournament. I am encouraging all players to bring painted fleets as it will be a requirement for our other big convention event. You can pre register for the Storm Zone Brawl when registration for the convention goes live. You can get hotel and registration information at the Ucon Website. We will be posting more information as we get it and missions in the coming weeks. We have some cool prizes being cooked up for you and we once again Prize support will be provided by Spartan Games and Evolution Games of Lansing and The Waygate.

Finally we have a big surprise for you. We will be bringing you The “Schaumberg Prime Offensive” Firestorm Armada Tournament at Adpeticon! Thats right, we are at the big show in 2015. Game demos and the Tournament will be taking place at Adepticon this year in its new venue the Schaumberg Renaissance convention center. We are just in the beginning stages, but stay tuned for updates and posts about our road to Adepticon. The format will be finalized after UCON. I am very excited about this event. Dreadbeard, Spellduckwrong and myself are working hard to bring you the player the best experience we can. Hotel information and Registration information is at the Adepticon Website. I believe Registration opens in October. Stay tuned to the Adepticon site for the registration dates and times. We expect the Tournament to fill up quickly.

Well thats all for now. I wanted to start the fall off with some exciting news. As a note I am hoping the rumors of Planetfall being released in October are true. If that is the case Demonstrations will be run at both conventions at the minimum. Stay tuned.

Until next time crush the Alliance and as always....

The Craftworld Open At UCON: Results

What a good weekend.  The Firestorm Event on Friday did not have the number of players I hoped for, but
it was a good Start.  We had 4 players and George Gasser took home our top prize for the Brawl In The Shoal Zone event.  Enjoy your new fleet sir!

Saturday was a day filled with being lazy, Firestorm Armada games and final preparation and set up for the Craftworld open on Sunday.  I want to give a special thanks once again to the guys at the Michigan GT for letting us use the Terrain from the GT.  Check out the website and reserve October 11th and 12th on your calenders next year.  The GT is back and will be bigger and better.

I also have dates for next years Craftworld open. UCON will return to the Marriott on Eaglecrest next year November 14th, 15th and 16th.  The Craftworld Open will be on November 15th next year.  The open is going to be bigger and better next year.
We have big plans and thanks to a move to Saturday we will not be Crunched for time.

We had well over $700 in prizes this year including free bits courtesy of Paulson Games for all the participants.  I will be doing a battle report and review of his latest creation Mecha Front next week.  Well I know you are anxious to know who took the top honors at the 2nd annual Craftworld Open.  So without further adieu, this years winners.

1st.  Ben Marouski (Necrons and Chaos)
2nd.  Aaron Simone  (Chaos Daemons)
3rd.  Jeff Crawley  (Eldar)

Players Choice Best Painted:  Vytau Malesh

Congratulations to this years winners.  I appreciate everybody for coming and playing.  The support is very welcome.  I hope that we have all your support next year and we can make this a bigger and very regular yearly event.

I want to thank our sponsors, whose links are on the blog sidebar there, BC Comics, Evolution Games, AFK Games, Paulson Games and Pandimonium for their generous donations for this years prizes.

Now I have to start preparing for Adepticon.  I have a GT list and a Combat Patrol list to come up with.  I have a very oddball list in development for the GT and I am keeping it under wraps for now.  Things could shift Drastically in the next few months as we get Codexes coming out.

I will post more pictures in a dedicated Picture post Wednesday.  I will also be finishing my series about
breaking the meta.  The third Installment will be covering the use of psychic powers in the Eldar army.  Mainly how to use them in conjunction with the other elements of your army to get maximum effectiveness out of them.

Until then......

UCON At Ground Zero

Seerk here. I am coming to you semi live from Ypsilanti Michigan. I am at the Marriott on Eaglecrest, home of UCON. Somehow I managed to get a room on the 8th floor. Its the fancy level. You need a roomkey for the 8th floor to even get to the 8th floor.  Apparently my super Seer power is to be a con baller on a shoestring budget.

Well the Craftworld Open is Sunday. We have more space and way better terrain this year thanks to the fellas over at the Michigan GT.  As I post this i am finishing up the mission packs.

Registration for the convention opens at 8:30 a.m. Sunday. I want dice rolling at 11 a.m.  I will post some pictures of our prizes this year once I have it all in one spot. Players will be treated to a nice sample of bits from Paulson Games for just entering.

Well i have work to do and a Firestorm Armada event to run at 6. See you all Sunday.

Until then

UCON Is Upon Us. The Adepticon Road Begins

We are a week away from UCON. The blitz of the Adepticon Web cart is behind us. I managed to get into nd on the wait list for the GT so chances of playing are pretty good. Our Badab War themed team for the team tournament otherwise known as “The Badab Motherf@%*!ers” is 8th in line on the wait list for the team tournament.
a combat patrol, Privateer Presses Iron Arena and a weathering class taught by Mr. Justin of Secret Weapon Miniatures. I also managed to be 2

I kinda dropped the ball on Adepticon registration and to my teammates I apologize. I wish registration could have happened after UCON. Or at least a little after so my credit cards have time to recover a bit. I digress a bit though.

UCON is a week away and we have one final sponsor joining us again this year. Pandemonium in Garden City Michigan was once again very generous in its support of the Craftworld Open. We have well over $500 in prizes for the Open this year. Space Marine kits, Campaign books, Paulson Bits and even an Aquila Strong point are all up for grabs.

I would also like to once again thank the guys over at the Michigan GT. They have been nice enough to provide the terrain for this years Open. You can look forward to next years Michigan GT on October 11th and 12th once again in good old Lansing Michigan. They are looking to expand so keep your eyes on the Michigan GT website for details.

I am looking forward to spending 3 days in a nice hotel in the Ypsilanti Ann Arbor area. The convention is very laid back and full of gaming goodness. It is a shame I cant do events as I will be running things all weekend. I will be assisting PG_Hick with the Warmachine Steamroller Saturday after running the “Brawl In the Shoal Zone” Firestorm Armada Event Friday night. Should be a busy, but fun weekend.

Well For those of you not attending UCON I will be doing updates while I am there. Following UCON expect to see a lot about Adepticon. Our Road to Adepticon has begun. This will be my 4th year going. Dreadbeard and The Judge have a couple years on me so they are true Adepticon Veterans. BigMek SkrapKlaw is returning for his second year and has graduated from the scout company. In fact the only Adepticon Virgin going this year is our own Spellduckwrong. So stay tuned for articles about our own journeys down the Road to the best 4 Days in Gaming.

See you all at UCON and then see you at Adepticon!

Until then................

UCON Event Highlight: Firestorm Armada

SeerK here.  Well we are just over a month away from UCON.  I will be posting Missions for the Open starting next week.  I have a flyer going around and will be posting a second version at shops around Michigan as soon as Dreadbeard makes it.
Craftworld

I wanted to take a minute to highlight some of the other events we are running at the convention this year.  I have always been a fan of games involving ships battling it out in space.  I played Battle Space from FASA and of course Battle Fleet Gothic.  The group at the FLGS got me hooked on Spartan Games Firestorm Armada.

I am running an event at UCON on Friday the 22nd from 6pm to 10 pm.  I will be teaching people how to play and running something akin to Privateer Presses "Iron Arena" format for the rest of the night.  For those of you unfamiliar with the Iron Arena, its an open gaming format that is run at Adepticon.  You play games to acquire points which can be turned into free stuff.  The more games you play the more points you get.  This encourages you to play people they have not played before and lets you play different kinds of scenarios and point levels. I think it should be fun.  The event is only $3.00 in addition to the UCON badge.  So hit the UCON site and register!

For those not familiar with Firestorm Armada, it is a Ship combat game made by Spartan games.  Here is the game in their own words. From their website.

What is Firestorm Armada?
Firestorm Armada puts you in the Admiral’s chair, commanding fleets of high quality Spartan Games miniatures. At your disposal are squadrons of starships ranging from small Frigates to gigantic Dreadnoughts. No matter the fleet, these ships are ready to receive your orders today and charge into battle.
The Firestorm Hobby
Firestorm Armada is much more than just a tabletop game. It is an engaging and engrossing hobby that is also incredibly rewarding, with huge amounts to explore. From the fleets of miniatures you can collect and paint to the tactical challenges of the game itself, all wrapped up inside the rich background of an area of space we call Fathoms Reach.
Muster your Fleet
Firestorm Armada is a space combat game that pits fleets against each other on the tabletop. But which fleet will you choose? Will it be the Terrans staunchly defending their territories or the Directorate out for profit through arms deals? Perhaps it will be the Dindrenzi seeking revenge for the destruction of their home world or the Relthoza looking to expand their empire.
Firestorm Armada has many races for you to choose from; each one with its own unique style in both models and game play. You should always select your fleet based on what interests you. Do you prefer the look of a certain race? Is it their background that interests you, or do you relate to their style of game play?
Within each fleet there is a wide variety of model squadrons for you to choose from, each one specialising in a particular battlefield role. To find out more about the races of the Firestorm Galaxy, their background history and tactics, and see some example fleets for you to use as inspiration"

I own a Rense System Navy fleet and I have been thinking about a Ryushu Fleet as the models are brand new. I really enjoy this game and I hope to see some of you there.

I also want to thank our current Sponsors

B.C. Comics

Evolution Games

Paulson Games.

They are contributing prizes as well as terrain and game aides in some cases. Thanks guys!
If you would like to Sponsor the events please contact me at the blog email at the top of the page.

Until Next time..........

Prepare Yourselves, UCON Is Upon Us!

SeerK here.  Ok Boys and girls its that time of year again. Once again the Craftworld Lansing team will be bringing you
the Craftworld Open at UCON. This is now officially an annual event. It will be a 3 round 1850 RT style tournament at UCON which is in the beautiful Marriott on Eaglecrest in Ypsilanti Michigan.

But wait theres more! This year I am expanding the War games Coverage. Friday night from 6pm to 10pm I will be running demonstrations and playing Games of Firestorm Armada. Saturday I will be Running Flames Of War from 2pm to 6pm. PG_Hick will also be running an event Saturday. Warmachine and Hordes Players rejoice. We have a Tournament going 10 am to 7pm

Sunday we will be rounding out the weekend with The 2nd annual Craftworld Open. Dice roll at 10am so I suggest heading over to the UCON website and pre registering for the events. UCON has a lot more to offer if you are a dedicated gamer. RPGs, Boardgames and much more. SO why not come down for the whole weekend.

Pre-registration is now open at UCON's website. Day badges are $10.00 for Friday and Sunday and $15.00 for Saturday. A weekend Badge for all 3 days is only $20.00. A badge is required for participation. The ticket for the Craftworld open is an additional $6.00. The tickets for Flames of War and Firestorm Armada are $3.00 in addition to the badge. Nick Huston my main man on the inside will be running Xwing that weekend as well. The Warmachine Hardcore on Saturday being run by PG_Hick is $6.00.

SO preregister. There are 30 spots for the Craftworld Open and 40 spots for the Hardcore. Preregistering not only reserves your spot, but gives us ammo to get more space if we exceed our allocated amount.

I will be announcing missions and any FAQ decisions over the Next Month. I will say one thing. This year I am requiring painted models for the Tournament. All models must be to a 3 color standard and WYSIWYG. I want to raise the bar across the board this year. Literally and figuratively.

If you have any questions don’t hesitate to shoot me an email or Tweet me on Twitter. I look forward to seeing you all at the convention.

Until Next time.....

UCON Poster Design MKII

Well, this isn't technically about 40k, but it is about a flyer that is about a 40k event. SeerK needs a promotional piece for the Craftworld Open tourney at UCON this year and I'm helping him get that ball rolling. I figure I'll put the revised version up on here and hopefully get some artistic feedback. There are still things I want to do but won't be able to until the text is finalized. I want to put an effect over all of the letters so that the font has the same lighting effect as the Aquila on the screen, you know, to give it that "old timey" hologram look. Also, I am debating whether to crop out the bottom part of the console. Initially I liked it because it gave the viewing machine a little character, but now I'm wondering if it is worth the visual real estate. I don't know. What do you think?

As a side note, I have been working to compile the general consensus on Critical Mass in lists and will be publishing something soon once I get this iteration straight in my own head.
