The Stormlord vs BigMek SkrapKlaw

True to form, the Orks confounded Imhotek, and sent the Necrons back to the junk heap.

Ok, first disclaimer, I'm writing this blog post off of the Blogger iPhone app, and I don't have all the nifty formatting controls.

Secondly, due to school and breaking my ankle, I have been off the grid for quite some time. Now, with SeerK going thru hobby malaise, I totally sympathize, and I've personally been struggling to get back on that horse for a while now. Well, thanks to BigMek, I've cleared off the cobwebs and played my first game with the new Necron codex.

I pretty much took a whole lot of new units to test out, paying little attention to actual army cohesion. After taking everything I wanted, I still had about 1000 points left. That was the first shocker. The point costs were shifted and I didn't feel so out gunned.

My army consisted of:
Imhotek
5 Deathmarks
24 Immortals with Tesla
2 Monoliths
4 Tomb Blades with Tesla, Shields, and enhanced BS
6 Scarabs
5 Lychguard with Sword and Shield
1 Triarch Stalker
1 Annihilation Barge

I was just a shade under 1850. Lots of new stuff to try out.

I'm afraid I don't know the ork army well enough to give BigMek's deployment. Feel free to add it in, BigMek.

For this battle, we were fighting for 4 objectives, spearhead deployment. The Stormlord kept night fighting going for all but the last round. I suggest using this power, the lightning ended up impairing two of his vehicles, and destroyed some weaponry off of them.

I jumped on the tesla bandwagon for this fight too. I must say, it is nice. However, for a vehicle heavy army like BigMek's I certainly missed the gauss weaponry. After the game BigMek suggested that I should have swapped the Tomb Blades to TL gauss, and used them to turbo boost and take out the rear armor. I totally agree with him. Tesla is anti troop, and doesn't have much teeth against vehicles.

The Triarch stalker was the MIP for me. The tesla destructor was harsh, and the targeting array made a TL array of death over a squad of nobs and a vehicle.

I never got a chance to try out the scarabs, BigMek's coptas chewed them up first thing. The Death marks never hit the board either. I have the worst luck with reserves, and I didn't read the new monolith rules well enough to think to have them come out there. Next time.

Speaking of monoliths, they are a solid unit still. The particle whip did its thing like normal, and sucking Orks into the portal did the most damage to BigMek's army. They will continue to be in the army list.

The annihilation barge was good too, but it didn't really get to cut its teeth.

I scooped after BigMek squashed the last squad of immortals. I could have continued to round 5, but having no troops to hold the objectives, I didn't see the point.

You have won this round BigMek, but I want a rematch.

Just The FAQ's Ma'am: FAQ Updates Across The Board

Well it looks like GW has gone on a FAQ bender. Necrons, Eldar, Dark Eldar, Tyranids among other have all received some FAQ updates. No real big changes for the Eldar. There seems to be an across the board change to psychic powers that although were a shooting attack did not require a roll to hit. This has changed. Many of the powers now require a roll to hit.....except Mind War.
There is some wording changes on Runes of Warding and Runes of Witnessing. This makes sense as they threw Tyranids a bone and changed Shadows of the warp. Librarians and psyker battle squads beware. No more hiding in vehicles. Shadows of the Warp now works like Runes of Warding. The only other slight tweaks are pretty common sense.

Dark Eldar Got hardly anything as most of the new additions are also common sense. They do specify that Flicker fields only can work against glancing and penetrating hits. I don't know who was using them against dangerous terrain, but they threw that out the door. This does give you wording though if your opponent calls shenanigans against hits in close combat, which I have run into a few times. The wording specifies only glancing and penetrating hits so it will defend against close combat as well as shooting.

Orks got no real update. They clarified some wording on profit of the waaagh! and firmly stated Boss Snikrot cannot bring vehicles onto the board using his special rule. Tyranids got the real help. Besides Shadows of the warp Impaler cannons got very nice as only the terrain a unit is in or touching count for cover. Basically this means Smoke launchers and Conceal, and like abilities or powers will not protect you. A hive Tyrant also no only counts as one kill point when with tyrant guard. Thats pretty big as now the tyrant guard are worth taking. You can really tie up a unit when those guys are equipped with lash whips.
So some good changes. Hopefully this breaths a but of life into the nids. They need it.

I have been having some talks over the 6th edition rumors and apparent leaks with OST lately. I have yet to find a copy of the leaked rules. Apparently I did not move fast enough or I am just not looking in the right spot. If anybody want to point me in the right direction I want to give them a read. I have read about a few test games and so far people are liking it. SO help old SeerK out and email the blog or send me a link.

Until next time.............

Imperial Armour 11 Has Landed

The Doom of Mymera has landed.  Imperial Armour  11 ships tomorrow.  Sadly I have to wait for my copy.  I am really looking forward to getting my hands on it.  It looks like we have the new Craftworld of Mymeara along with corsairs and Alaitoc.  More Imperial guard are included as well as the Space Wolves Great company of Bran Redmaw.

So we will have a complete Corsairs army list as well as final stats for the Shadow Specters and the Phoenix Lord.  I would imagine there is a crazy Space Wolf Character or two as well. Once I get a copy to read, which should be soon if I know Farseer Re-Rolls, I will give a run down and my opinion on the new stuff.

Has anybody else noticed that Alaitoc seems to at the forefront of the fluff as of late.  The Path Of series Gav Thorpe is writing and now an Imperial Armour book.  Alaitoc is also cited several times in the new Necron codex as being active in hunting tomb worlds and destroying them.  I wonder if they are going to be the poster children of the Eldar for 6th edition.

I guess we shall see.  Well Next time I will have a battle report.  I broke out Da Kabal uf Da Big Teef while I was up at the FLGS and squared off against our own BigMek SkrapKlaw.  Once again he established the orky pecking order on the blog.  I am also hoping to have another post up on DFG this week.  I have had requests from several players at the shop, Vogrin included, to run the Age of the Emperor campaign I ran across, that was put out by the Tempus Fugitives.  More on that later, and probably on Dark Future Games.  I also may have a rant about Ebay and Paypal this week.  Once I calm down about my funds being held.

Until then..............

Kabal of Da Big Teef Update: We gots us some Vehicles.

My hobby Table is overrun with orks!
After spending a couple days up at the FLGS this past week I felt the hobby bug start to wake up again. Given the fact I will be returning from the path of the outcast back to the Craftworld as it were, I am moving back to Lansing in February, I decided to start cleaning out the closet and start consolidating the miniatures collection a bit for transport. I unpacked the newly acquired orks that I got from The Judge an placed them with the others. I started digging thru the Dark Eldar bits I have, old and new, and inspiration took hold. Methinks that a break from the Eldar is needed, modeling wise, as I have grown uninspired assembling and attempting to paint them. The Kabal Of Da Big Teef is finally going to get worked on consistently and is fulfilling its original purpose. Getting my hobby drive kick started again.

So I give you some of the, very early, conversions and models I am doing fro the army. The army itself is kind of divided into two camps. You have BigMek Urchon Bigtoof and his Dethskullz boys on one side and Boss Lubgrub Bigtusk and his Snakebite boys on the other. They are the survivors of a failed Dark Eldar raid on the planet these two groups were currently living on after the space hulk they were riding crashed. The BigMek was impressed by how shooty and Hurty the Dark Eldar weapons were. He also wondered how they could go so fast without bein red. Da boss puts up with the BigMek because he has more boys with him and his Nobs or “OrKubi” are dead killy.

The Mech and his boys are going to be loaded up in “truks” and a battle wagon while Da boss and his boys will be riding “bikes”. I have to make the boss yet as I have to find a suitably big boar for him to ride. I am thinking a Rhinox or even A Razagor from the Beastmen line.

I converted the first trukk using an old style Dark Eldar Raider. A battle wagon sprue and a whole ork Truk were then kit bashed into the ramshackle vehicle before you. As a car guy I had to make all the controls and drive train look at least 90% legit or else it would bug the ever living crap out of me. I am going to add some Grots hanging off or possibly some boyz in the same style as the warriors on the new raiders.

The Battle wagon I got already assembled so I am adding lots of spiky Dark Eldar bits and weapons. The grot riggers will ride on the old raider platforms welded to the rear of the wagon. I have been trying to ass some weapon pods from a new ravager I have form a big bits lot I got. We will see if I can make it work. Since the battle wagon is the personal ride of the BigMek I want it to be dead shooty and killy, or at least look the part.  Its still not done, its missing something and I have not figured out what to do really.  I am sure it will come to me as I build and go thru my bits boxes.

Well there ya go My Kabal of Da Big Teef update. As I get some more stuff converted I will update. I also have the Bike council I need to start painting and finish buying and building. I am on the hunt for cheap jet bikes to finish the council and flesh out the two small guardian jet bike units in the list.
More on that as I get stuff done.

BATTLE REPORT: The Webway List vs Orks

I was able to test my 3 portal Webway list this passed Wednesday night at the FLGS. Big Mek Scrap Klaw and his boyz came for a good scrap and they got one. The modified Webway list ditched Lelith and the Razorwing Fighter for an Archon and a group of Trueborns. We had a Spear Head deployment with a capture and control mission. I set up 3 wide to get the best possibly deployment zones for the portals. I was set up inside a village while the orks mustered in the outskirts of the village in a 3 wide battle wagon wall.

Turn One
Having gotten first turn I moved forward. The Archon and his Trueborns took their raider to the left side of the village while the Haemonculi and their Wracks took their Venoms up the middle and to the right side. I got good deployment on the portals. Sadly the Trueborns Failed to do any damage to the nearest battle wagon. The orks surged forward and opened up with all the dakka they could muster. A mob of slugga boys poured out of the battle wagon nearest to the trueborns and began to take them apart. You see ol Skrap Klaw is ded cunnin and most of his boyz are snipers. Matt has an uncanny ability to do pretty well in the shooting phase with his orks. Me thinks Skrap Klaw has been looting targeters from all his crushed enemies. The Trueborns were cut to pieces by slugga fire and then beaten down under the weight of massed choppas, only the Archon defied the green skins and lived.

Turn Two
With the portals open The Beast Masters whipped their menagerie of death into a frenzy and came howling out of the middle portal. The first two squads of Wyches came out of the far left and right portals. The Haemonculi and their wrack bodyguards began to retreat back towards my objective while the Venoms continued to engage the Def Koptas hitting my flanks. The Beast Masters and Wych squad on the left slammed into the mob of boyz assaulting the Archon. The Wych Squad on the right side slammed into a battle wagon. They immobilized it. The other 2 wagons found themselves damaged but still operational and the mob of boys was cut to pieces by the Beasts and Wychs, but somehow managed to stand fast as not all of them were killed.
The orks responded by moving the besieged battle wagons back, but not before disgorging their cargo of shoota boyz. The Wych squad on the right side was laid low by a hail of bullets and Big Mek Skrap Klaw letting loose with his favorite skorcha, while the remaining slugga boyz were finally cut down with a second battle wagon made immobile.

Turn Three
The Archon had been killed in the swirling melee of the previous turn. The Beast Masters and Wychs on the board moved to engage the battle wagon in the middle of the army, as well as the now empty battle wagon on the left side of the board. The last Wych squad came screaming out of the right side portal towards the immobilized battle wagon. The Clawed fiend managed to destroy a battle wagon in close combat while the Wych squad that came late to the game got a little overzealous and slammed their haywire grenades onto the immobilized battle wagon on the left. This caused one of the best explosions ever as it hit pretty much every unit on the table except the Haemonculi and their Wracks jetting back to the objective while blasting the remaining Def Koptas.
The Orks now on the ropes, and wondering where in the hell the Warboss and his Nobz were, ( they apparently had better things to do as they failed to come in for two turns now.) Brought all their remaining Dakka to bear. The Wych Squad that blew up the battle wagon got to do the burnie dance as Skrap Klaw took vengeance for the destruction of his prized battle wagon.

                                                                                    Turn Four And Five
Turn 4 and 5 saw more destruction and mayhem as the orks Were killed to the man. Well that is until the Warboss finally arrived with his nobz and laid into the remaining wyches. The Beast master pack had been broken after the Remaining wyches had been slaughtered. The Haemonculi and their Wracks had disembarked to hold the objective while. The Venoms moved to support the Wyches which had been laid to waste. A nob had been killed a couple injured but that was about it. So the game ended in a tie

Overall I like the 3 portals. I really have to reevaluate the method of deployment for the third portal though. I am going to try the list in another game just to make sure as we kind of got into the thick of things pretty quick. I should have just held back the Trueborns for webway Deployment and Just slapped the Archon out on his own. I honestly like having the razor wing in the list. It is so effective at dealing with massed infantry. I am going to play with the point totals a bit and see what I can come up with.

Until then......

Blast From The Past: We Got A Necromunda League

I have not been able to play as much 40K as I would like to. Sadly there are not many people around that I know I can get a decent game in with. I have not been able to get up to the FLGS in Lansing anywhere near as often as I want to. My buddy Adam, an ex GW staffer like myself, is an avid war gamer, but he does not play 40K. He recently told me he was itching to play some old school stuff. This past Thursday we did just that. We started a Necromunda league.

It was a major blast form the past for me. Necromunda was the second GW game I ever played. My gateway drug, as it were, was Blood Bowl. I had a pretty decent Escher gang back in the day. Having sold off all my old stuff though I had no gang, so I dipped into my model collection and made a Goliath gang using my newly acquired orks. Da Big Teef Boyz was 10 members going into my first game.

Big Mutz and Big Futz set up for optimal fire
I faced up against Adams buddy Jeff and his Redemptionist gang. It was a scavenge scenario and sadly there was a monster lurking about. I was dealt a blow as Big Futz, one of my heavies, was dragged away in the opening turn of the game never to be seen again. One of my gangers, Lutz, was also beaten to a pulp and lost some fingers and has an old battle wound now. Needless to say I got F'ed up. We played a second game with 4 gangs on the table. There was an overturned transport in the center with a bunch of loot tokens. Combine that with a toxic fog that kept viability down to 10 inches and we had an interesting game. I basically ran forward to just grab what I could as I set up the closest to the wreck. I Got about half the loot tokens. Meanwhile my very scarred ganger, lutz, took one of my juves and the new heavy, sans heavy weapon because I could not afford one, thru my gangs tunnel network, basically lets me deep strike or set up like infiltrators, to take vengeance on the leader of the Redemptionist gang Maynard. Besides loosing fingers and getting the old battle wound he also hates Maynard. This game proved to be fun but very costly. I lost my new heavy and Lutz lost his left hand. I did get a bunch of loot though and experience. My Juves are now pretty beefy in close combat thanks to both of them leveling up 3 times. Lutz gained back the weapon skill he lost because of his hand and also gained a very coveted weapon in the under hive. A power Claw.

Big Futz makes a last stand to protect one of his boyz
So with two games in I am ready for more. I am going to mod up my spare orks so they are WYSIWYG. I think this will be a good distraction. Playing Necromunda also has me very very interested in playing Kill Zone with the guys at the shop. A dark Eldar gang as it were would be fantastic.

Next time I will be Talking about the webway list and integrating Archons into it rather than Lelith and the Haemonculi. I am also hoping to have a game next weekend involving the Court Of The Archon.

Until then.......

Da Kaybawl Of Da Big Teef: My New Orky Kabal

There was a lot of orky action at the FLGS this past Saturday. I was able to get a couple games in and one of them was the official first game of my new ork army. I had a revelation after a rather late night phone call from Old School Terminator. I have a bunch of old Dark Eldar raiders, warriors and so on and so fourth. I inherited them from OST when I decided to start playing Dark Eldar again, which was several months before the new version of the codex came out.

The revelation was I should use them. OST did not want to see them languishing in my bits box. I use them occasionally, because I have a ton of them, for bigger games involving lots of warriors, but they just sit mostly. OST suggested using them as looted vehicles. The the idea hit me. Orks inspired by the dead killyness of a Kabal/ Wych cult raid on their planet. So a new Waagh! is started by:

Da Kaybawl Of Da Big Teef!

I am going to start the process of converting my raiders into looted Ork trucks. The army is going to be a combination of Bad Moons and Snake bites. In fact the Warboss is going to be a Snakebite with his Nobs that decided to hook up with a Bad Moon big mech. The left overs of a two ork camps that were hit by the Wych Cult of Strife. Big Mek Uzgrub Szazmek is obsessed with “dem ded killy pointy earred gits” and their impressive Truks. Boss Murdoc “Da Big Porka” uglutz and his Thunder Porka Boyz are looking to get revenge for the raid and kill “dem beasties that shredded up da boyz” and prove to those flashy bad moons that they old ways are the best ways.

I got in a game with the local Warboss Matt and his boyz. We played a 1500 point game in a good old pitched battle for kill points. I had first turn and set up my army pretty close together as my mek boy had a custom force field. I had 2 truk mobs of boys, a mob of 12 burna boyz, a mob of boyz with the warboss and my mob of nobz on “bikes” aka da thunda porka boyz.

I should have kept the thunda porkas near the force field area of effect. Matt is quite the orky sniper in the shooting phase. I lost one nob to rocket fire from one of his def koptas. The two battle wagons gunned it forward with the warboss and his boyz and the big mek and the burna boyz. One of the truks stayed behind and the boyz in it piled out to deal with the other def koptas.

After the opposing orks moved forward and hit the exposed units with a torrent of dakka my boyz moved forward. This is where it went all wrong. The opposing warboss got out of his battle wagon with his nobs. They then charged both the battle wagons. The burna boyz wagon was immobilized and the other actually took no real damage. The real issue was when I decided to try and ram the closest battle wagon and deff rolla the warboss and his nobs that were in the way. Da Boss proved that he was A Boss by grabbing the incoming battle wagon by the def rolla and flipping it over. He and da ladz had a laugh at the 2 nobs that got squished in the process. The Burna boyz were removed the following turn from their transport. The Warbosses managed to also kill each other in an even power claw exchange. Sadly when the Big meks hit each other mine never got to swing thanks to his ded killy power claw.

Da Thunda Porkas survived most of the game. They took a lot of fire though and all had a wound by the time they reached da scappin. They went down fighting though. I really do have to put a warboss on a Thunda Porka to beef up the squad and leave all the vehicles based squads to the Big Mek

I am looking forward to converting up all my raiders into Truks. I am also looking forward to putting all these old Dark Eldar bits to good use. I will post pics as I get them modded up.

Until next time....

I See A Bad Moon Risin!

Well with my semi renewed vigor with the webway list I decided to plan out my orky side project. I am going to be slowly building and painting this army alongside the webway list. After much deliberation I have decided I need something that is different color scheme wise than the dark dreary colors of the Wych Cult Of Strife. SO I have decided to paint the orks in the brightest yellow possible, with some red of course.

Da red uns go fasta!

So I have decided to go with a mech list based around the Bad Moon clan. I plan on running everything in Truks and Battle wagons. In true Bad Moon style I am also going to run a mega armored Warboss and mega nobz. My 1850 list consists of

HQ
1x Mega armored war boss, Attak Squig, Cybork Body, Boss Poll
1x Big Mek,Custom Force field, Eavy Armor, Attack Squig, 2x Grot Oilers, Cybork Body

Troops
3x mob of 12 boyz, Nob with power claw and boss pole in truks with red paint jobs
1x mob of 6 meganobz with 2x skorcha shoota, 1x rokkit shoota in a battle wagon with red paint job and deff rolla

Elites
2x Mobs of 15 Burna boyz

Heavy Support
1x Battle Wagon with red paint job, deff rolla, grot rigga, zzap gun, grabbin klaw, 2x big shootas
1x Battle Wagon with red paint job, deff rolla, grot rigga, 2x big shootas

This comes to 1846 points. This is meant to be a fun theme list. It does lack lootas and Flash Gitz, which would also be a good addition to a Bad Moons list, but I wanted to have a very mobile mech list. I also wanted lots of burna boys and mega armored nobs. Even though it may lack in areas I am looking forward to building it and playing it. I think it covers the areas to tackle multi tiered missions adequatly. It is 14 kill points so it is only slightly out of my comfort zone for the number of kill points I can give up.

I plan on painting theses guys rather traditionally, but in the most obnoxious brightest shade or yellow I can find. This also means priming in white and doing some layering to get the yellow right. It should be fun and break up the monotony of painting Dark Eldar.

So there is my list. I am hoping to get a game in this week, but the work schedule may not allow it. I may to try and get the Dark Future Boys down to Ypsilanti to get a game or two in.

Until then....

Bits For The Bits God! Also Let The Waaaagh Begin!

So I did not want to jump on the 6th edition rumor band wagon. SO I won't. I will believe the rumors when I have the rule book in my hand. Granted Blood Of Kittens is fairly accurate with their rumors, but honestly me commenting on them is kind of beating a dead horse.

So I just wanted to remind everybody we will be doing some bits trading at Evolution Games in Lansing. Old School Terminator has the bits bug and I have to say it has bitten me too. I have been working on models and seem to be finding my way out of my hobby funk. I am very excited as I hope to trade Old School for some Orks tomorrow. IN honor of my new adopted army I am going to try ans start some discussion on Orks.

I want to do a themed army and I have it kind of narrowed down to a couple different things. I have been contemplating Bad Moons and Death Skulz. I Like the bright loud yellow colors predominant in a Bad Moon Army. I like the idea of blue and green though as well. I also really like the whole Death Skull habit of looting everything. This opens up a lot of possibilities for looted vehicles and big guns.

I am hopefully going to pick up the main core of Boyz tomorrow and I plan on painting a couple to see how I like the different color schemes. I am also leaning towards the Death Skullz because I am a fan of Meks. I like the whole concept of orky technology and the Meks just kind of hap haphazardly throwing stuff together.

So I am planing on running a Big Mek and Warboss as my HQ's. I plan on running boyz of course as the bulk of my army. I want Burna Boyz as well, but I am not sure what else to run. Since this is a fun army I want to keep in theme, but use units that are not seen that often. Something off the wall really. I like the idea of the Tank Bustas and bomb squigs. I was also kinda shocked to learn that Deff Coptas have a bomb attack they can do. I have never seen ork players use them like that.

I have a lot of reading to do so as I progress with them army cut this git a little slack all you veteran Warbosses.

SO I hope to see you guys at the bits trading. I should be there pretty early after I say hi to some people and get some stuff done. I will be parting with some of my Eldar as I just do not use the models and I don't see myself needing them in the future. I will be giving up some Chapter House Warlocks complete with jet bikes. I also have a falcon and Pathfinders to sell off. I have a complete Harlequin troop as well. I never run them so I might as well part with them.

I hope to have a fun battle report vs one of the Dark Future Game guys tomorrow as I have not gotten a one on one game with OST of CVinton in a while. Also look for the 9th Foundation Of Vengeance this weekend. The Stormlord suggests I speak about a topic near and dear to a Dark Eldar's dark heart. Pain.

Until next time..............
